Born and raised in the Shenandoah Valley of Virginia, Kyle grew up in a small, rural area.  He didn't become involved with music until much later than most of his peers. It wasn't until the beginning of his 9th grade year that he began getting involved with his  concert and marching band as a percussionist.   When his band director played a recording of Ravel's "Daphnis et Chloe," he then realized the beauty and magic of the flute.  He sought a local private teacher and began intensive, individualized study on the instrument.  Along the way, he auditioned and was successfully admitted to many VMEA-sponsosred ensembles on the County, District, Regional, and State levels.  In addition to his studies through private instruction and the public education system, he was selected through an audition process as one of three flutists across the state to attend the 2005 Virginia Summer Residential Governor's School for Visual and Performing Arts.  Through this in-residence program housed at the University of Richmond, he took private music lessons, participated in actively performing ensembles, and was involved in heavily concentrated music core classes. During his senior year of high school he was selected as the winner of the Thursday Morning Music Club's Scholarship Competition and was awarded recognition along with a cash reward.

After graduating high school, Kyle attended James Madison University in Harrisonburg, Virginia where he earned a Bachelor of Music in flute and education.  His principal teachers were Dr. Beth Chandler (flute), Dr. William Dabback (education,) and Lisa Maynard (education.)  During his undergraduate scholastic career, Kyle sought out every opportunity to perform and teach.  It was at JMU where he gained greater experience and knowledge in the aspects of orchestral, chamber, flute choir and wind ensemble performances, flute solo literature, pedagogical techniques for private study, as well as historical and theoretical training in music.

In an effort to extend himself throughout his community, Kyle has enjoyed being active in working with with various wind bands, orchestras, and chamber ensembles, and can be seen in the and concert halls and musical pits.  He has collaborated with such groups as The Rockbridge Choral Society Symphony Orchestra, The Shenandoah Valley Bach Festival Orchestra, The Stonewall Brigade Band, and the Harrisonburg-Rockingham Community Band.  Kyle has offered his abilities to local schools and institutions, playing musicals for Fort Defiance High School, Wilson Memorial High School, James Madison University, and the Woodberry Forest Private School.

Kyle also finds traditional music to be effective in providing a meaningful and memorable experience to worship services.  Because of this, he has been featured as a soloist and has worked with other musicians for many churches of varying denominations.  Most recently, he has played for New Providence Presbyterian, Grace Memorial Epsicopal, Linville Church of the Brethren, and Montezuma Church of Brethren (where he also served as substitute choir director.)

Most recently, Kyle has been offered an assistantship to Ohio University where he will study with Alison Brown Sincoff to earn a Master of Music in flute performance.  As a part of his fellowship, he will teach and perform through the university and community.

If you would like to contact Kyle to play for performance opportunities or if you know, or are an interested student in taking lessons, please call or e-mail for questions, comments, or inquiries.
